Udimore

PARISH COUNCIL: I couldn’t be at the Council’s meeting last Wednesday. I’ve based the following very brief account on the draft minutes kindly shown me by our Parish Clerk, Sarah Willoughby. Councillors were told of the current planning policy of East Sussex County Council, under which Udimore would be required to accept the building of a modest number of new properties (7 by 2028). If you would like further details of the current Core Development Strategy, it’s suggested that you contact the Parish Clerk (01424 813785).

Our ESCC member, Cllr Maynard, said that reduced government grants would inevitably lead to further proposed cuts in the services provided by the County, but none of these would be implemented without full public consultation.

The next meeting of our Parish Council will be on Wednesday November 18 in the Hall, starting at 6.30pm.

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT: Today (Friday) there will be two opportunities to support this charity in its wonderful work for cancer patients. This morning from 10am till noon there will be a Coffee Morning at the Ferry Road Surgery, Rye. And later in the day, from 7 till 9pm, there will be a Coffee and Cake Evening at Brede Rectory (next to the church). Please do your best to support one of them (or indeed even both), taking a friend or two along with you, if you are lucky enough to have transport.

UDIMORE CHURCH SERVICES: This Sunday there will be two services in St Mary’s, Holy Communion at 8am and Evening Prayer at 6pm.

MOBILE LIBRARY: This Wednesday, September 30, the Library is due to spend half an hour at our Community Hall from 11.45am till 12.15pm. Do make the most of this excellent facility while we still have it - and by doing so help to ensure that it survives the next round of financial cuts. As an extra incentive, refreshments will be available in the Hall at the same time.

MURDER MYSTERY EVENING: At the time of writing, it appeared that most of the eight tables available for this event were now fully booked. But if you haven’t yet arranged to be there and don’t want to miss a really good evening out, it would be worth ringing Gill Rothery soon to see if you can be fitted in on one of the others. Her number is 01424 882774.
