UN Association

ALLAH akbar (God is great), shout the kids with wooden weapons, instead of playing hopscotch.

So recalled Christian peacemaker John Lynes, of St Leonards, when he shared his recent memories of Palestine and Kurdistan with Bexhill and Hastings UN Association on February 20.

He also remembered the children of harassed families in Hebron, all their possessions in a handcart and everyone in tears.

But, despite the interminable suffering, Mr Lynes was not without hope for eventual solutions in the Middle East.

He said the British government should realise there is no military solution, stop arms exports to the region, stop demonising Hamas and the Kurdish Workers' Party, press for Turkey to be admitted to the EU and Palestine to the UN, and end our addiction to oil.
