In our video, the Hastings Observer went to a rehearsal of the show on Sunday (1st March) to find out more:

Hilary is 50. She’s worried about her marriage, her job, her age and most of all her teenage daughter, Tilly, with whom she is always at cross-purposes and who consistently comes out on top of any argument. Husband Mark isn’t much help – and then there’s her actress friend Frances who’s trying her hand at burlesque, Tilly’s girlfriend Lyndsey and boyfriend Josh. Not forgetting Josh’s parents and a strange young man who suddenly appears. And the dog! Thank goodness for red wine...

April de Angelis’s comedy is a laugh-out-loud, yet often moving, look at mother-daughter relationships. Tamsin Greig, who was the original Hilary, said: “It was really invigorating to navigate deeper into those intimate relationships. It’s a bit like tidying up your room so it looks fantastic, and then looking under the bed and thinking: oh, there is all that stuff I never sorted.”

A Stables Theatre production directed by Maureen Nelson assisted by Andrew Bruce.

There will be an after-show discussion with the director and cast on Friday 20th March.

The show runs from Friday 13 to Saturday 21 March. The start time is 7.30pm (Sunday 15 March at 3pm) No performance on Monday.
