In the run up to the Netballathon and until the anniversary of her death on August 8 we are asking residents of the village to decorate their homes and gardens with purple ribbons. The ribbons are available from various in the village, 50p each, with all proceeds going to the charities. Starting at 6pm on July 7, the residents of Etchingham will be taking part in a 24 hour Netballathon to raise money for the two charities, At some times during the 24 hour period there will be a lot of people attending, many will arrive in cars, parking space is limited, there are a couple of hall bookings so space will have to be reserved for the hall users, and there will be strictly no parking near the houses in Parsonage Croft. To make sure all vehicles are parked in a safe and considerate manner with no disruption or annoyance to residents a rota of stewards will be set up to monitor the car park at all the busy times. To establish a rota we will need volunteers, details of how to volunteer, and an online form to submit your details can be found on the first page of the village website www.etchinghamvillage.co.uk . If you can offer to help but do not have a computer please phone me on 01580 819532, or you can ask someone who has a computer online to put your details on the online form for you, they just need to note that you do not have an email address and you will be contacted by phone.

There will be regular updates here as we get closer to the date. If you are planning to attend the event and live close enough to walk to Parsonage Croft please leave the car at home and walk, if the available safe parking spaces are full people will be asked to find somewhere safe to park in the village and walk back.

ETCHINGHAM MUSIC FESTIVAL: The Etchingham Music Festival began life as a series of formal and informal concerts in 1987. Since that time it has flourished to become a well rounded programme celebrating music, both classical and modern and the spoken word. Centred around the beautiful 14th century village church, this is a unique experience for both performers and concert lovers.

This year’s festival offers a strong and varied programme which commences at 7-30 p.m. on Saturday July 1 with “ Let’s Dance” . Piano duets from Emma Abbate and Julian Perkins will set your feet tapping to music from Grainger, Mozart, Weber, Schumann, Debussy, Gershwin and even Wagner!

On Sunday July 2 at 7-00 p.m. The Heath String Quartet, described as one of Britain’s most exciting modern chamber ensembles, visit Etchingham. Their programme will feature Haydn’s Quartet in B minor, Beethoven’s Quartet in F major and the Mendelssohn F Minor quartet.

Florian Mitrea, the highly acclaimed Romanian-born pianist, makes a welcome return to the Festival on Tuesday July 4 at 7-30p.m. Once again he will be joined by the Atea Wind Quintet. They will play various combinations of piano and wind including the Taffanel Wind Quintet and pieces by Debussy and York Bowen.

Paul Roberts Piano Recital will take place on Thursday July 6 at 7-30 p.m. An internationally renowned authority on French music, he will play Children’s Corner by Debussy and Liszt’s B minor sonata.

The Opera Supper returns to the theme of “Let’s Dance” on Saturday July 8 commencing 7-30 p.m. For those who enjoy both good music and good food - and who doesn’t - this is the perfect . Concert-goers will enjoy a splendid supper and four singers and a pianist from the Royal Academy of Music will perform a medley of arias and duets and more from favourite operas.

The 2017 Etchingham Music Festival closes on Sunday July 9 at 4-00p.m. with a free concert with Richard Evans presenting students from the acclaimed Trinity Music Academy. Come and hear the musicians of the future with a mixture of piano , violin and singing.

ETSR QUIZ: ETSR are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday July 1, 7pm for 7.30 start, in the Etchingham Village Halls. Tickets £10 to include a 2 course supper, there is a vegetarian option available. Bar and Raffle, maximum team size is eight, but smaller teams are fine, tickets available from Etchingham Post Office or by contacting Nicky at [email protected]

VILLAGE WEBSITE: The village website is provided by the Parish Council to inform residents of Parish Council and village activities. The site is updated on a voluntary basis to keep running costs to a minimum, Council agendas and minutes are published on the site and archived agendas and minutes for the last five years can also be viewed. You will find a number of contact forms on the site enabling you to easily contact various people and organisations including the Parish Clerk, Councillors and Churchwardens etc.

GARDEN OPEN: The garden at Fishers Farm, Fontridge Lane will be open in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice on Tuesday June 27, 10.30am to 4pm, refreshments available, parking in field next to the house.

SAVE THE DATE; Saturday September 9, that is the date of this year’s fete and Village Show, full details to follow nearer the date. So that all the village photographers can be planning their photographic entries, these are the classes this year. ‘Copper’ (your interpretation) ‘On the Farm’ ‘Hills and Mountains’ and ‘Transport’. Schedules will be available soon.

STEPS MAPS: In conjunction with Fairfield Surgery, Burwash the Patient Participation Group have drawn up some maps showing walks around Burwash and Etchingham, the maps also show the number of steps between various landmarks. The aim is to encourage people to walk more for exercise, and is based on the principle that, in an effort to maximise one’s fitness, one should ideally walk a minimum of 10,000 steps per day. The maps are available on the “Local Maps” page at www.burwash.org, and there is also an easy access link to download the maps on the Etchingham village website www.etchinghamvillage.co.uk

MOBILE LIBRARY: The Mobile Library now visits Etchingham once every three weeks, on Tuesday mornings 9.40am to 10.20am.at Parsonage Croft outside the School and village halls.

Next visit is Tuesday June 27.

If these times are not convenient, or you miss the Library when it visits, it will be at Hurst Green village hall, 12.15pm to 1.00pm and Burwash, Rother View 2.10pm to 2.30pm two days after the above dates.

CHURCH OPENING: The Church is open every day for visitors from 11am to 4pm. If you have not already been in, visit on a nice sunny day so that you can see how bright the Church now is with nice white walls. Reminder, for security reasons the Church will be closed during the Music Festival, July 1 to July 9.
