People-People..!’:Meaning? Well, would you say you were a people person? I like to think I am...I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people, workwise and socially. Communication is key, and that means talking, listening, understanding and reacting...and in this digital generation, it’s a very precious art! The exhibition and talk by David and Liz from Ninfield Local History group on Saturday was fabulous, and brilliantly presented, showing how the Village School had developed since the late 19th Century, and logging the success of it’s staff and pupils right to the present day; so interesting to see people’s names constantly reappearing throughout the years. Currently, our Village has some fantastic ‘people-people’...one of whom has been working with the Salvation Army for 30 years, and at 86 years young, and with health challenges, still intends to carry on walking, in smart uniform, round Ninfield, talking to friends on the doorstep, and collecting money for those others who desperately need it. Another much respected and well known resident, who has given a lifetime of service to his community, celebrated a milestone Birthday last week; and, rather than just accepting the deserved accolades he was given, was more concerned with putting a note into this column to say Thank You to those who sent him cards, and gifts, and who came to his ‘Front Lawn 90th Party’..(He delivered the note today, and sends love and thanks to all!),. Both of these gentlemen are the ultimate ‘People-People’, who like to talk, listen and communicate, and who are iconic to their own, and later generations, in the Village. So, to Alf Sage.. we salute You; and to Jim Hoad... Congratulations, and very many Happy Returns.!
Ninfield Parish Council: The next meeting is on Thursday 6th October at 7.15pm, in the Methodist Hall, Church Lane. As usual, there will be a packed agenda; Ninfield always has a lot to discuss, debate and occasionally have a laugh with! This Friday, 29th, should be the closing date for people to submit suggestions for the naming of rooms in the new Sparke Pavilion, and the Clerk will be updating everyone as to how many entries there are...you can still quickly put forward your nomination..so please contact the numbers at the end of this entry! There will, no doubt, also be updates on meetings that have been held with WDC and ESCC, which both Kaye and myself attended, and which were both of a length, but important and worthwhile. Please come along and find out more about what is happening in the Village, and what is proposed for the next 6 months or so. Christian Voices: The performance of ‘The Miraculous Birth’ will be held on Saturday 8th October in the Methodist Church Hall, Church Lane, starting at 3pm. The Play is based on the events leading up to the birth of John the Baptist, and is written by Alan Young with Music composed by Dave Chamberlain. The Drama Group, Christian Voices, are extremely popular, and will be providing another glorious afternoon of entertainment, which is free to attend, and which will be accompanied by light refreshments. The last show they performed was very successful, so please make a date in your diary and go early to get your seat and see this production!
Ninfield Methodist Church: Harvest 2016! A message from Paul Burson to say that they look forward to celebrating the Harvest-time at their Church on the weekend of the 8th and 9th October. The Messy Church has already got things rolling last week with their ‘Bumper Harvest’ event, and on Saturday 8th, the Christian Voices performance takes the lead. On Sunday 9th October at 10.30am, the Methodist church will welcome the Ninfield Scouts and the Messy Church families, plus everyone who would like to join them, to their Harvest Praise service led by Rev Tricia Williams. Any gifts that are presented at the celebration will be shared between the village and the Bexhill Foodbank. Everyone is warmly welcomed to attend!
October!: This weekend sees the start of the Shoot Season- October 1st; its the Autumn Equinox (Meteorologically), and, it seems to be the AGM season in Ninfield! Two to mention are, the Carnival Association - Wednesday October 12th at the Tin Hut ( Working Men’s Club) from 8.30pm and the Committee are doing food for everyone. And then, then Monday 24th October, the Memorial Hall AGM in the hall from 7.30pm. Both meetings are relevant and open to the public to attend.. indeed, both Committees would be delighted to see people coming along to find out more about what they do.. with maybe the view to join in and help! These two ‘bodies’ actually work very closely together, and have reciprocal fundraising activities. The next event where everyone joins together is the Halloween Ball on Saturday 29th October, where the Hall becomes alive.. or dead!.. with Fancy Dress, Music, Dancing, Grand Food Hall, Cabaret, Magic, Spooky Games; and a Spectacular Raffle, which the Hall Committee are doing. Over 100 people thoroughly enjoyed the evening last year, and tickets are now on sale at £15 per head, to include all food and Entertainment. There will be a fully stocked Bar, which the Carnival Committee run, and, because this is a major Fundraiser, all profits go towards the Memorial Hall funds for the necessary upgrading of the Kitchen and Toilets. Defibrillators: Can be found and accessed 24/7/365 on the front walls of the Public Houses in Kings Arms - Ninfield and Red Lion -Hooe. If the need to use these devices arises, be assured that easy to follow instructions are included within the units, which will be of help.
