If Music be the Food of Love..; Well? Was your week a philharmonic symphony of delight? Did your doorstep stack with cards from unknown admirers? Your vases fill with 50 shades of Red Roses? At time of writing it's still before the event.. THE day is Tuesday, and who knows..?! But, really, what an extraordinary display of Hearts Flowers and Love tokens now adorn every shop window and shelf...it's definitely an enormous money-making exercise.. and, truthfully, shouldn't the sentiments of St. Valentine's Day be expressed on a 365 basis? Anyway, before we go to the Dairy events, a quick report on the Wacky Races final vote at the Carnival meeting on the 8th Feb. After a consultation with the residents of Church Lane and Downsview, there were 9 replies, 2 For the event and 7 Against. It was great to be able to reconfirm the Blacksmiths Inn on the list of options, as the new Manager Jimmy was really keen to hold what might be the last running of the Races, in it's usual venue, with all the new ideas the Carnival is promoting. So this was the option voted for by the Committee for Sunday 28th May; planning now is on the go... And put the 29th April in your Diary - Live Auction at the Memorial Hall! Watch This Space!

Ninfield Village Market: Saturday 18th February at the Memorial Hall from 9.30 - 12 midday. This is the start of a whole year of monthly markets; this first being at the Hall, and hosted by Chris Hutchinson and the Hall Committee; with the next one on March 18th being run in the Hall by the Ninfield Scout Group. Chris is also co-ordinating the seasonal markets at the Blacksmiths Inn, and these will run in the gaps between - April 15th is the Spring Market in the Pub with profits going to a specific Carnival item. There will be lots of different stalls, selling produce and goods sourced locally, Coopers Farm Meats, Game & Eggs, River Mead Nursery vegetables/plants, The Pie Pantry, Aselton Cakes & Preserves, plus some non-comestible stalls! It is hoped that these markets will become a regular diary feature, with buyers placing orders to pick up the following month, and spending an hour or so meeting up with friends over some light refreshments! Ninfield Horticultural Society: This Monday, 20th February, at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall. The Horti Society will be welcoming Derek Fitton as their speaker for the evening, and he will be giving an interesting talk on what we should be growing our patios and in our conservatories for this year...and How to do it!! It’s definitely time to be thinking abut the Summer displays! There will be a raffle and refreshments as always, plus lots of interesting ideas to discuss and take away! Non-members are very welcome to attend!

Ninfield Neighbourhood Watch: The next meeting is on Tuesday 21st February at 7.30pm in the Reading Room, Church Lane. There will be updates on the reactions to the letter about Parking issues and local incidents. There was a piece in this column on Jan 17th from Rod, who is the Ninfield Co-ordinator for Neighbourhood Watch, which outlined the dangers of parking half on/off pavements, and blocking driveways, with the resulting visual impairments causing vehicle accidents, and also danger for pedestrians, especially Mums with buggies and those in mobility scooters. At the meeting on Tuesday Tea/Coffee and biscuits will be available and there are no charges to attend. Ninfield & District Art Society: Wednesday 22nd February from 2-5pm in the Memorial Hall. This new group is now established, and artists of all abilities are very welcome to go along and join the fun! From Beginners, to Intermediate and Advanced, or maybe you would like to try a new medium and need some help or advice, there will always be someone on hand, and taster sessions are also available. Please just turn up with whatever materials you have; paints, pencils, paper etc.; relax and chat while tea, coffee and biscuits are on the go. Sessions are £6 each and payable every 4 weeks in advance.

Pancake Lunch: On Tuesday 28th February- St.Oswald’s Church, Hooe are inviting everyone to go to their drop in event at Hooe Village Hall, between 12 midday and 2pm, and have Soup, Pancakes and a chat! There are no tickets required, entry is free but there will be a request for donations to the ongoing fund for repairs to the Church roof etc.

Hooe Open Group: Thanks to Edna for the following report;- The Ladies met on Friday 10th at Hooe Villlge Hall, and, even though the day was wintry and grey, had their usual fun, with the added joy of welcoming a new member. Unfortunately the expected speaker from HFS was unavoidably detained, so local celebrity Alan Fuller stepped into the breach and kept the audience entertained with a lively presentation called ‘My Dogs’. The afternoon passed quickly with tea and nibbles and the infamous Raffle, and also running was the Bring & Buy table which is generously supported by the membership. If you’d like to join this friendly group, that meet every second Friday at 2.30pm in Hooe Village Hall, please call Edna on 01424842591.

Hooe Parish Council: This is an early Head’s Up for an date in the Hooe Diary. Saturday 4th March - the Great British Spring Clean event is taking place from 10am (meet at the Red Lion Pub) and everyone is asked to recreate the fantastic Clean for the Queen day when the village was swept and polished by enthusiastic volunteers! Please wear bright clothing, wear gloves and if you have a litter picker, please bring it!
