News from Westfield
BARN DANCE: Tomorrow (Saturday) the Barn Dance with The Reel Thing takes place in the Westfield Community Hall from 7.30pm. Last-minute tickets at 5, includes a ploughman's supper, are available at Archers and Westfield News but remember they are both closed on Saturday afternoons. There will be tickets available on the door but be prepared to be denied entry when capacity is reached. Bring your own wine or beer and glass; soft drinks will be on sale. The ticket price is low as this is a fund-raising event though there will be a raffle as there are some expenses to be met.
KARAOKE: Also tomorrow evening, and it would be possible to go to the Barn Dance first, the usual last Saturday of the month Karaoke night is at The Plough. Have you seen their new website? There are a number of events as the year passes, so check them on www.theploughwestfield.co.uk and don't miss the opportunity to have a tarot card reading on Saturday March 7 from 6pm. Don't forget the new 99p menu, available Tuesday to Thursday lunchtime and Merry Hour from 5.30 to 7p.m. each weekday.
CHURCH: At the parish church of St John the Baptist, Westfield, this Sunday the first in Lent, Holy Communion (1662) is at 8am, followed by the all-age service called Nine Thirty Start and Parish Eucharist at 10.30am. Morning Prayer is said on Fridays and Saturdays each week at 9.30 when everyone is welcome. There is a Lent group on Tuesday evenings, beginning this week, led by John Burgess and an afternoon group on Wednesdays led by Helen and Michael Patten.
BUSY: Next weekend Saturday March 7 is a busy day. The Scouts hold their Jumble Sale in the Community Hall at 2pm. admission 20p where there will be bargains galore. Any contributions are welcome from midday as long as items are no bigger than a chair and no TVs or computer monitors. In the evening Westfield Cricket Club is holding their Quiz Night at The Old Courthouse, for teams of six.
WALK: The monthly footpath walk took place on Sunday at 2pm. This time the group left The Old Courthouse and walked various routes on some smaller footpaths circulating the centre of Westfield. The group included four-legged Emmie and Megan who were joined by a visitor Kizi.
SPRING SHOW: Schedules are being studied for entries in Westfield Horticultural Society Spring Show taking place at the Community Hall on Saturday, March 28.
NEWSLETTER: The Community Newsletter was duly out on time last weekend so by now every resident in Westfield should have received their copy. If this is not the case, please contact me or leave a message at Westfield News. My Village Voice did appear in last week's edition though not on the same page as the others. I welcome any details of events for inclusion.
