Village voices - January 2

News from Westfield

NEW YEAR: A Happy New Year to all readers, may 2009 be healthy, peaceful and as good as it is possible to make it for everyone.

BLOOD: Today, Friday January 2, the mobile Blood Donor Unit will be at The Old Courthouse car park for the usual afternoon and evening sessions.

OLD COURTHOUSE: As it is the first Friday of the month, the usual Curry Night is still on the calendar. What chance is there for a turkey option tonight? Drop in and find out what Andy has decided to cook as there are usually three to choose from. On the liquid side, during the whole of January, Andy and Lynne are trying to help those hit by the credit crunch with a special offer of 2 a pint on a selected lager and a real ale. Call in to discover which Andy has chosen to be the day's special.

CHURCH: At the parish church of St John the Baptist, Westfield, on Sunday, Holy Communion (1662) is at 8am, Nine Thirty Start, all-age service is at 9.30am and Parish Eucharist follows at 10.30am. As this is the first Sunday of the month, gifts of non-perishable food will be collected again for use by the diocesan Family Support Work Outreach Team in Hollington. The Seaview Project in St Leonards-on-sea would welcome donations of warm clothing and sleeping bags.

Contributing to the Christmas decoration in the church was the splendid tree and thanks are due to David and Jo Foy at Freshfields Farm Shop for again supplying it.

RECYCLING: Twelfth Night is upon us already and time to remove the decorations. Remember that the real Christmas tree will fit, cut up if necessary, in the garden waste bin, if you have one, or your household waste bin so it goes to landfill (remember the lids have to shut), or take it back to Little Down Farm where you bought it. Incidentally, the reindeer were a pleasure to see and were visited by a large number of people.

Congratulations again to Mick and Jon Baker on gaining their award and doing so well in the national competition for their Christmas tree growing.

LIBRARY: Another week until the chance to change library books on the mobile unit. The stops are Geary Place from 2.20pm to 3.15pm and Churchfield from 3.30 to 3.55pm.

TABLE SALE: Watch for details of the Table, Indoor Boot Sale to take place on Saturday January 24 in Westfield Community Hall from 2 to 4pm or call 01424 755721 to book a table.

WHO DID IT?: The 1st Westfield Scout Group is holding a Murder Mystery Evening, with the help of BATS, on Saturday January 31 in the Parish Hall.

Tickets at 5, to include supper, will be on sale shortly, posters will have more details.
