Village voices - November 28
news from Westfield
LIBRARY: Once again, today (Friday) the mobile library van calls at Westfield's two stops, Geary Place and Churchfield from 2.20pm to 3.15pm and 3.30pm to 3.55pm respectively. The dark evenings provide more opportunity to stay indoors and enjoy stories of far away places and situations.
FAYRE: Tomorrow (Saturday) Santa has an appointment at the Parish Hall in Westfield and hopes you will be there too for the Christmas Fayre at 2pm, organised by the Friends of the church.
All the stalls one expects at such an occasion will be there, including granny's attic and a whisky raffle, putting the coming festive season into action. Admission with a cup of tea is 50p. Everyone is welcome.
CHURCH: At the parish church of St John the Baptist, Westfield, this Sunday, Holy Communion (1662) is at 8am, Nine Thirty Start at 9.30am, then the Methodist Service at 10.30am, as it is the fifth Sunday. There is an emergency collection being taken on Sunday for Christian Aid's humanitarian appeal, in collaboration with the Disasters Emergency Committee, for Congo.
OMISSION: Further to the content of the Community Newsletter, it has been drawn to my attention that one particular advertiser did not get a mention.
At this time of year when an extra special clean is required preparing for visitors, Andrew of Clean4You is the person to assist, phone him on 01424 716631 evenings, or 0750 881 7927.
He already has customers in Westfield, one of whom recommended the newsletter, and it would be this issue I covered his name with something else – the problems of modern technology again.
WALK: The weather last Sunday morning did not encourage anyone to turn out for a walk but by 2pm what a difference, just right for the monthly footpath walk which started at The Plough.
A bit muddy underfoot but splendid views and birds to spot, even Megan and Emmie missed what turned out to be a much longer walk than the group usually undertakes; the route is often decided by those who join in.
It is not long until the next planned walk as Christmas has been left clear. Hopefully, there will be some company on Sunday, December 7, meeting at the War Memorial by the church at 2pm.
