Westfield Wildlife is TWO years old on 18th September! Over the last 2 years we have had to date 20,000+ viewings from 76 countries worldwide. Our busiest day was on 10th August 2013 with 274 visitors to the site after the posting on a rare Long-tailed Blue butterfly sighting in Pett was widely publicised. Average views for 2012 was 46 per day, the highest monthly hits 1,439 in May. Surprisingly only 132 comments were made on postings. We would like to thank all of our contributors for all their interesting sightings, photos, and comments. We hope you will continue to support and enjoy Westfield Wildlife and submit many more sightings from the around the parish of Westfield over the next 12 months. Community Speed Watch volunteers for Westfield. Information from Sussex Police invites villages to set up groups of volunteers to carry out this worthwhile speed check. I am sure you will all agree that some motorists travel far too fast through our village and we need to do something to help change their behaviour. Villages that have already taken part in a speed watch initiative report that there has been a noticeable reduction in speeding. Initially, I am looking for expressions of interest, volunteers need to have some free time to participate in initial training by the police and then become part of a group of ideally 10 who would operate the equipment on a rota basis. Unfortunately, if there is insufficient interest it will not be cost effective for the police to deliver training. To find out more See http://www.westfieldvillage.co.uk/node/4527

Westfield Bowls Club hosted the annual match versus the Football Club last Sunday. It was played before the heavy rain came which worked out perfect. For a change (maybe the first ever) one of the Football Club teams actually won, skippered by Kefin Bakka & with a fair bit of good luck & bowling. Afterwards everyone retired to the Football Club & enjoyed a sausages & chips meal. Everyone really enjoyed their day & look forward to next year.

The F3 women’s group had a presentation regarding the St Michael’s Hospice Neighbours campaign publicised in the village earlier in the year. This scheme is looking for people to volunteer their time by giving a few hours a week, fortnight or month on a day and time that suits them, within their local area, to help with everyday tasks such as putting out the washing, walking the dog, cooking and daily chores – or just chatting over a cuppa. The first Westfield volunteers are being trained, but more are needed. Please contact Jane Cave on 01424 445177 ext. 6012, or email email@example.com if you think you can help.
