Services at the Parish Church: on Sunday are Holy Communion at 8am and Morning Praise at 10am. The 10am service celebrates Pentacost Sunday for all the family, with very special visitors Bishop Richard (Bishop of Lewes) and Shades Theatre Company. Please come if you can.

Westfield Parish Assembly: took place last week. Visitors were able to see displays from Playgroup, the Cricket Club, the Tennis Club, Westfield Scout Group and Westfield Horticultural society before the Volunteer Awards were presented. Parish Council Chairman James Woodhead was delighted to present the Rose Bowl to Barbara Balkham for her outstanding contributions to the village community over many years, which include playgroup, Scouts, Parish Council (councillor and then Parish Clerk), village website and more. Annual Volunteer Awards certificates of thanks were given to Roger and Norma Bendle for their work at The Hub, and to Frances Richardson for all her work with Scouting. James reported that the long awaited replacement of the arson damaged play equipment on the recreation ground opposite the church should be complete in a few weeks, so that is good news for families as the summer approaches. However, progress is still very slow with the Westfield Down project and with the building of a footpath at the A28/Cottage Lane corner – we wait (still!).

Have you returned your entry form: for the Scarecrow Competition? As this year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the scarecrows need to have a Shakespearean theme. There is just time to enter, so pick up an entry form from one of the village shops and return by tomorrow. Scarecrows need to be displayed from May 28 until June 4, and prizes and certificates will be presented at the Village Fete on June 11.

The Friendship Club: meets in the Parish Hall on Monday, May 16 from 2-3.30 pm for bingo, whist or just a chat over tea and biscuits. Several outings are arranged during the year, and new members are always welcome, so contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095 for more information.

The Westfield Parish Lunch Club: meets next Friday, May 20, from 12.45pm in the Parish Hall. This volunteer group provides a two course home-cooked meal (£3.50) for those in the parish over 50 years old or who are disabled. There are special lunches (£4) at Christmas and Easter time, and a lunch outing in August. New members are welcome, so please contact Co-ordinator Doreen Smith (751417) if you would like to join.
