Westfield

Congratulations to Westfield School: pupils and staff, especially Mr Greig! Westfield School won the Hastings Song Contest at the White Rock Theatre last week with their original and creative entry Hastings Seaside Celebration. All the Hastings schools taking part will now learn the song for a special parade along the seafront to the pier in June. Visit YouTube to see and hear their prizewinning song.

There is no 10am service: at the Parish Church this Sunday as there is the Benefice Holy Communion service at Guestling Church at 11am. There will be lunch and an open garden afternoon at Lankhurst Farm on Sunday, June 5, so let’s hope for fine weather.

There will be a Fun Day: this Sunday, May 29, at Coghurst Hall. This is to raise funds to support Fia, the daughter of a local family, who has been diagnosed with Alexander Disease, so come along and enjoy all sorts of fun. There will also be a table sale; ring 01424 757995 for details and bookings.

The Friendship Club: meets in the Parish Hall on Monday, May 30 from 2-3.30pm for bingo, whist or just a chat over tea and biscuits. Several outings are arranged during the year, and new members are always welcome, so contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095 for more information.

Look out for Shakespearean: scarecrows around the village! They should be on display this week-end, ready for judging. The Village Fete follows on June 11 with a theme marking the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, so please decorate stalls, or come in suitable costume to join in. The organisers still need volunteers to help on the day, particularly with setting up from 9am or clearing up at the end. They would be also very grateful for donations for the Grand Draw, and these can be left at Westfield News for Annie or Pauline. Please get in touch with Annie at [email protected] for anything fete related.

Looking further: ahead, the mobile unit of the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre visits Westfield on Thursday, June 23, and will be in The New Inn car park from 10.30am – 12.30pm. The bus is accessible to wheelchair users and representatives from both the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre and Adult Social Care will provide free advice on all aspects of hearing loss. The bus is equipped to offer demonstrations of assistive equipment and hearing screening tests. For further information please contact the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre on 01323 722505 or e-mail [email protected]. Please make sure that anyone you know with hearing problems is aware of this service.

The Westfield Draw: raises funds for Westfield Community Association as well as giving you a chance to win a cash prize every month. New members are always welcome to join. Renewals (£10) for existing members are due on 1st June. Please leave your remittance (cash, or cheques to WCA) in an envelope with your details at Westfield News for Pauline to collect.
