Westfield WI

President Pat Mohamed welcomed 33 members to our January meeting.

Sadly her first duty of the New Year was to tell us that valued member Margaret Broadley had passed away. She will be greatly missed.

After the usual business had been dealt with we embarked on a DIY afternoon - in other words a Soap Box meeting.

Four members had volunteered to spend about eight minutes each regaling us with various stories.

First on the soap box was Vivienne Dawson telling of some amusing incidents in her early days as a Wren, and her later involvement in more serious matters as the war progressed.

Next came Carol Paige with an account of a particularly interesting visit to some lovely gardens on an optional Naturist Day!

Tricia Spinks followed with a couple of amusing anecdotes from her early married life, being stuck in a window and the other, unwittingly going out like a member of the Black and White Minstrel Show!

Lastly Pat Mohamed read a true story of a small American girl whose 57cents for a new Sunday school snowballed until there was sufficient money to build a church.

We ended with the usual tea and cakes, the raffle was drawn, and Barbara Graham was the winner of the competition for 'A Favourite Box'. The meeting closed at 4pm.
