HELLO: Don’t forget if you have any local activities taking place within the parish please let me know so I can publicise it in Village Voice so that we can all come and enjoy it.

PARISH CHURCH NEWS: The special service at Whatlington church on Sunday 12th June to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday was a joyful and happy occasion. The service focussed on the Queen’s life of service and the inspiration which she gives to others. We had a congregation of 38 adults and 8 children who heard the personal stories of former churchwarden Ken Jones, who is a Queens Scout and has a lifetime of service to the Scouts and then of our long standing Parish Clerk, Valerie Bennett MBE, who gave us a fascinating account of how she was nominated for her MBE and of the occasion when she and her family attended Buckingham Palace for the investiture. Ken had some pictures from when he became a Queens Scout, while Valerie brought her MBE medal and the framed proclamation from the palace of her award.

There was some lusty singing of well known hymns such as ‘Immortal, Invisible’ and ‘I vow to thee my country’, as well of course as the National Anthem.

After the service Helene and Valerie laid on a lovely spread of cakes, including a 90th birthday cake, which was quickly consumed by the congregation! People were also able to see the impressive selection of crowns which the children had coloured in during the service.

Coming back down to earth, next Sunday we welcome back our friend Revd. Angela Cooke to take our service, which is a 9.30 am Parish Communion.

Looking forwards to Sunday 26th June there will be a Songs of Praise service at 6pm at Whatlington.
