A BATTLE woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries following a car accident this lunchtime (Wednesday June 26)

Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene of the crash at Netherfield Road in Battle just before 11.15am.

The woman was driving a blue Fiat Panda which was involved in a collision with a silver Hyundai vehicle.

Firefighters cut the woman free from the vehicle before Kent Air Ambulance took her to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The male driver of the Hyundai was taken to hospital via land ambulance with suspected hip injuries.

The road remains closed to traffic while recovery work takes place.

The Highways Authority is due to attend the scene shortly to clear fuel from the carriageway.
