A new year poem from the town crier

Another year has slipped away how quickly time does flow

Will this be the last one well that I just don’t know

I had a little problem my old heart missed a beat

But the Conquest stuck a bit in and now its running sweet

I’ve reached the age of 84 but still I shout hooray

My Rita’s still beside me that’s all I need to say

I know if I’ve a problem she will be right there

She helps me put my socks on she even cuts my hair

My old mum once told me you can make em laugh and cry

I hope that’s what I’ve done folks God save the town of Rye
