Share memories of novelist

I am from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, an educational charity supported by the Estate of Anthony Burgess. This year marks the centenary of the novelist and composer, most famous for the 1962 novel A Clockwork Orange.

As part of our centenary celebrations, we are asking for any memories from people who may have known him. He lived at ‘Applegarth’ on High Road in Etchingham during the 1960s. Part of his novel Earthly Powers is set in Battle. Burgess was a notable member of the community, who frequented several local pubs and we would be fascinated to hear any memories from people who shared their time with him.
