Time to make voices heard

Liberal Democrat councillors on East Sussex County Council form the largest opposition group to the Conservatives, and I am currently our spokesman for adult social care.

I am grateful for the coverage you have already given in the paper to the public consultation on the council’s proposed cuts to adult social care (amounting to a total of 40m) which will hit our most vulnerable citizens very hard indeed.

I urge your readers please to make their voice heard via the council’s website before the consultation closes on December 18.

On a political level, Liberal Democrat councillors are working very hard to come up with an alternative set of proposals that are not only responsible with council tax payers money, but which are fair and which will protect those people across the county with significant care and support needs.

I hope that, in due course, Labour councillors will join the Liberal Democrat opposition to the cuts, and agree a joint amendment to the council’s budget for the coming financial year.
