Design of Rye's new primary school comes under fire

A row is continuing this week over the design and appearance of Rye's new primary school.
The new £6 million school, which is due to open early in September, has been described as an eye-sore by residents living opposite.
They say its bright blue and yellow colours are out of keeping with Rye's historic townscape and a semi-rural area.
Rye councillor Mary Smith is calling for a meeting between residents and planners to iron out concerns.
Rye county councillor Keith Glazier has agreed to try and fix a meeting up.
Love Lane resident Susan Hawkins said: "The first view of the school I had was an artist's impression and you can do anything with an artist's impression."
Resident John Shersby said; "The colour is inappropriate and should be changed to a more muted tone."
John Howlett said: "The bright yellow ventilators on the roof are intrusive. They should be a different colour."
As well as the appearance there are concerns over the dropping off point for pupils and the extra volume of traffic which will be coming into narrow Love Lane.
John Shersby said: "What provision has been made for staff parking? Can we be assured that Love Lane will not be used?"
Cllr Glazier says there have been discussions about starting a walking bus, from the station car park, which he says will help alleviate traffic congestion.
He said: "The new school is a multi-million pound investment in the future of young people in Rye."
Rye Mayor Cllr Sam Souster said: "The new school was proposed and came into being for all the best reasons."
Cllr Mary smith said: "The transport situation needs to be talked about now, not in September when the children converge on the site."
