They took to the streets, on July 4, to judge the 40 entries submitted this year.

Rye in Bloom chairwoman Jane Conlin said: 'The standard was very high – the design, quality and sheer beauty of many of the entries made the judging both very difficult and a great pleasure.

"We would have liked to give awards to everyone.

"The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place at Rye Town on September 29 at 6 pm.

"Rye Mayor Sam Souster has kindly agreed to present the special plaques created by David Sharp Pottery."

She is retiring soon and says: "I have loved being part of Rye in Bloom but feel that it is time to hand over to new blood."

She says all that is required is the desire to keep Rye beautiful and a little time to do the judging and organising.

She commented: "It will be an exciting year working in tandem with the new Blooming of Rye and Rye Action Group initiatives."
