More than 200 people have signed up to a web site group urging people to boycott The George Hotel at Rye.
A group has been set up on social networking site Facebook this week called Boycott The George - so far 270 people have signed up.
They are angry about the George's decision to exclude customers from going for a drink on Friday and Saturday evenings, unless they buy a meal.
The four star George, which claims to be Rye's most upmarket hotel, says it had to change its policy because residents and diners were unable to enjoy quiet meals.
Manager Andy Rogers says the decision was taken after feedback from local people who go there to enjoy a quiet meal.
The George has stressed that need for more dining space is the main issue.
But those upset by the move say staff at the George should control noisy customers without introducing a blanket ban that effects those who just want to pop in for a drink.
Many have vowed never to use the George again.
People were voicing their opinion on Facebook this week.
Gemma Pankhurst said: "They were idiots to join the restaurant with the bar. Now they will suffer the consequences of losing trade due to stupid new rules."
Tim Phillips commented: "I have lived in Rye all my life. What a silly thing to do. Let's see what happens in the winter.
Lara Pavey said: "I'll never go there again."
But one contributor sympathised with the George's policy and wrote: "I don't get this? why the hype? I would love to be able to eat in the bar without any disturbance and noise.
"I have been there on busy nights and its just not great to enjoy the great food."
The George hit the headlines earlier this year when Heather Mills drowned her sorrows in the bar after being blasted by a divorce court judge.
The Daily Mirror reported that she was spotted trying to chat up a barman.
