RESIDENTS and visitors had the chance to taste local food and wine at the weekend as the Taste of Rye festival got underway last Friday.
The 10-day event, which finishes on Sunday, started with a Rye Bay seafood and wine evening at the Fish Cafe.
A one-day seafood cookery demo was held at Webbes Cookery School as well as demonstrations of filleting fish at Market Fisheries.
The George Hotel was the setting for an Orchard-ology class in which residents and visitors could create their own blend of apple juice with the help of Colin and Susie Corfield from Owlet Apple Juice.
Sunday saw local wine tasting and a gala dinner being held at the Rye Lodge Hotel, as well as a 'Beer Street' menu at the Landgate Bistro.
On Wednesday a farmers' market was held offering the chance to taste locally-cooked pies and baked goods.
The highlight of the week is tomorrow's monthly Rye produce market, which will take place behind the Cinque Ports Inn near the station and main car park.
A selection of produce including wines, beers and fruit juices, organic breads, game, smoked meats and sausages, home-grown vegetables and Rye Bay fish will be on offer.
There will also be a four-course dinner on offer for £25 per person at the Ypres Castle Inn.
Sunday sees the ultimate cake buffet at The George as well as the 'Beer Street' menu at the Landgate Bistro.
