Work to renovate Icklesham Memorial Hall is going ahead after years of planning and fund raising.
Maureen Callis, from the project committee, said: "Enough money has now been raised."Despite the many obstacles raised at Parish Council meetings over the past few months, the contract was finally signed by Hastings builder Paul Croft Ltd and Chairman of the Icklesham Memorial Hall Trust Committee Derrick Baker, last Thursday.

"Work commenced on Tuesday and is scheduled for completion in six months.

"The project involves installing a new roof, renovating and strengthening the exterior walls and a total refurbishment of the interior. Project Managers for the scheme are Manning Wistow Architects Ltd.

"While the work is in progress, alternative accommodation had to be found for the twice weekly doctor's surgery that was held in the hall.
"A mobile unit was brought to the recreation ground last week and will be used solely for this purpose.

"It will be open to patients from Friday 9th May and operate exactly as before.

"The Icklesham Memorial Hall Trust Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the fund raising over the years.

"In particular, thanks go to Icklesham Parish Council and Rother District Council who have supported the scheme."
