THIS morning (Friday) Sedlescombe's participation in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning is at Asselton House, The Green.
Go along and join Judy and David in their home where, backed by Sedlescombe Green WI, you can enjoy coffee and cake with your friends.

There will be a raffle, bring and buy stall and a table of produce and cakes for sale. All proceeds are for Macmillan Cancer Support.

TOMORROW (Saturday) at 2pm there is the Fair on the Green in aid of the new sports pavilion, with plenty going on and something for everyone.

As well as stalls and games there is a barbecue in the Queen's Head garden accompanied by music from the Band of Two.

Tea will be available and local novelist Sophia Creswell, will be looking after children's storytelling. We are promised good weekend weather so go along in your numbers and support yet another good cause.

In the evening there will be a short entertainment by a group of singers called Lorelei in the church at 7pm, followed by a Harvest Supper Salads and cold meats will be served at the supper followed by apple pie and cream or fresh fruit. Wine or soft drinks will be available. There is no charge for supper but there will be a retiring collection.

ALSO on Saturday evening there is a Fashion Show in Battle, 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall, in aid of Age Concern.

ON Sunday there are two services, Parish Communion at 10am and Harvest Evensong at 6pm. The retiring collection at the former is for St Michael's Hospice.

JOIN Fr Allan in the Rectory at 7pm on Monday evening, after a short Eucharist, to celebrate his 40 years of ministry. Please take along some food if you go, drinks will be provided.

THE Thursday Club will meet on October 2, 10am to noon in committee room 2 of the hall to hear Sue Meredith talk about 'Travel with a Donkey'.

ADVANCE notice of a quiz in aid of the sports pavilion on Saturday, October 18. Quiz evenings are great fun and we haven't had one for some time so I hope the response will be good. Contact the Glews on 870 258 or the Dellows on 870 223 to register.

Quiz evenings involving the Glews and Dellows mean scrumptious cake in the interval, enough of an incentive without the attraction of a well run quiz.

I HAVE just read a book called 'Starter for Ten'. TV is always pillaging literature so it's rather good for a writer to use a TV programme as the basis for a very funny novel. I recommend it.

LAST year, through Chapel Hill Church, Sedlescombe filled a dozen or so shoe boxes for the charity 'Love in a Box' at Eastbourne, sending Christmas gifts to children in Bosnia, Ukraine, Romania etc. It is hoped to do even more this year.

If you would like to help, please pick up a leaflet from the village shop. This gives details of what you may put in the box and when and where to deliver it. You have to October 26 to prepare your box and deliver it to Margaret Smith (870 431). Your help will be much appreciated.

SEDLESCOMBE and District's Autumn Show is in the village hall on Saturday, October 4. Please look in your garden for flowers, vegetables and fruit to display at the Show. There are also sections for pot plant displays, domestic goodies and handicraft items.

The flower arrangement section has not been well supported lately and the organisers ask that you have a go at 'Autumn Beauty' which is the Show's theme. Judging of this item is by popular vote so we look forward to some colourful entries from ladies, gentlemen and children.

There will be a section for Young Gardeners (with 50p awarded for each point gained) and a competition for the family to create an autumn nature tray.

There will be a display by Friary Gardeners and an apple tasting stall, so bring along some apples (name the variety please) from your garden for visitors to taste and judge by popular vote.

Exhibits (and apples) may be entered by anyone (including non-members) and should be brought to the hall between 11.30am and 1pm for the paperwork to be completed before judging starts.

The hall will re-open at 2pm to the general public, with admission 30p for adults, children free, and awards will be presented around 3.15pm.

Further details from Alan Olin (team leader) on 01424 870 007 or Barry Bradbury (secretary) on 01424 870 401.
