News from Sedlescombe
IT WAS a good quiz last Saturday. Thanks to the organisers for another enjoyable evening which included some mouth watering cake. It was a shame more people didn't make it but the evening raised a worthwhile £200 for the Pavilion fund. Our team looked set fair to win the wooden spoon at the break. Consoled by the aforementioned delicious cake we rallied and the judicious use of our jokers meant we ended up joint second. Well done the team.

THE Friends of the Parish Church have their annual jumble sale tomorrow (Saturday), starting 2pm in the hall. You can take jumble to the hall on the day, prior to the sale. Jumbles usually attract a good number of people so do be one of them and go along and spend freely. The prices are always silly which means good bargains. Don't miss out.

THE church has other events during November with the usual monthly mini market on Thursday, November 6, and a pre-Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 15. The Fair will be opened by Canon Alan Sharpe at 2pm, with admission 50p for adults, children free. You will be greeted with a glass of punch and a mince pie, included in the admission, and there will be the usual array of stalls plus some extras to tempt you. You may well find your present buying solved among gifts and decorations on sale and the organisers look forward to seeing you in the hall.

OUR village shop may well be able to help where presents are concerned. They currently have a display of literature by local authors, much of it about the village itself which will interest present and past residents. The More Cotton Reels book referred to last week is retailing at £9.50. There's also a nice book for children which Mrs Lister wrote when she was a student.

YOUNG children in the village are well catered for by the Pre School group which meets in the village hall on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At the start of a new academic year the playschool often finds itself lacking in clients as many of the older children go to school proper. There are vacancies, details of which can be seen in the Sedlescombe News.

MARGARET Smith would like to remind you that the shoeboxes filled with goodies which are being donated under the Love in a Box scheme must be with her (at 15 Gorselands) this weekend as they have to be delivered to the organisers on Monday (October 27). If you have taken the trouble to fill a shoebox with items suggested it would certainly be a pity to miss out by not getting them to Margaret on time.

ON Tuesday (October 28) the Sedlescombe Societies' Association will be having its annual general meeting in committee room 2 of the hall at 8pm. A 'new' committee will be voted in.

We all know it's likely to be the old brigade as usual but new committee members would be welcomed as would any new ideas for the Fayre.

Approaches made to the SSA from user groups for funds will be considered so if you haven't put in a bid but would like to, now is your opportunity.

A deadline of October 20 was quoted but it's not too late if you want a little injection of cash into your organisation.

THROUGHOUT next week the electric blanket testing will be going on in our area. The nearest place for us is the Battle Memorial Hall where testing will be going on between 10am and 3pm on Friday, October 31.

You do need to make an appointment though - ring 01424 457 129.

WE MAY not have had a good summer but, my word, we are having a fantastic autumn. We don't often get sunshine for us to appreciate the colours in their full glory but there's no problem this year. I hope you are getting out and about, on foot or by road, to witness nature's spectacle. She often reminds us of her ruthlessness but at the moment we are being treated to a display of her beauty.
