“A good result today & we can start looking up”

Hastings Priory captain George Campbell says the first priority is still to survive, but they can start looking up with a good result at home to Roffey today (Saturday, 12.30pm start).

Priory are up to fourth in the Sussex Premier League following last weekend’s win away to East Grinstead and are only 11 points behind third-placed Cuckfield with a game in hand. The congested nature of the table, however, means that they are just 26 points above bottom club Worthing.

“It’s a really tight league this year,” said Campbell, who will be available for most of the remaining matches. “There are a lot of teams who are very similar in standard and I think that shows.

“It’s all about stringing a couple of results together. One or two more wins probably puts us safe and then we can look up rather than down. Now we’re exactly where we want to be and it’s important we keep picking up points.

“We’ve won four games already and in the second half of the season we’re nearly always stronger than we are in the first with players returning. I’m fully expecting results to improve at home as the summer goes on.”

Elsewhere today, Bexhill will travel to St James’s Montefiore and Crowhurst Park are away to Findon in Sussex Division Two. Priory, incidentally, will be back in action tomorrow with a Gray-Nicolls Sussex T20 Cup quarter-final at home to Preston Nomads (3pm start).
