Cathy primed for England showdown

Cathy Bargh admits she is "bursting at the seams" ahead of her England badminton match against Scotland.

The well-known sporting ace cannot wait to represent her country (over-45s) in the McCoig Trophy match in Largs on Friday.

While she is there Bargh will also contest the Scotland Open Veterans' Championship which is held the following two days at the same venue of the Inverclyde Scottish National Sports Centre.

"It's going to be a very busy weekend," she said. "I'm so excited, I'm bursting at the seams. I can't wait for it to happen."

A good performance in Scotland could well see Bargh called-up to the Great Britain veterans' squad for the Europeans to be held in Spain later this year.

Bargh, who lives in Sedlescombe and coaches at Summerfields Leisure Centre, earned her England selection on the back of winning the over-45s ladies' singles title at the 13th English National Veterans' Championships towards the end of last year.

This success meant she became the first player from Sussex to win the over-45s and over-40s ladies' singles having claimed the latter competition in 2002.
