Ade Olorunda is set to go straight into Rye United’s squad for their game tonight (Tuesday).

The experienced striker is expected to be involved in the Sussex Senior Cup second round tie at home to Crawley Down Gatwick after his move to The Salts was announced on Sunday.

Rye joint manager Marc Gall said: “He goes straight into the squad and it will give everyone a boost. Everyone’s excited about it round the club. It’s a colossal signing, absolutely huge.”

The Quarterboys are 13th in Sussex County Football League Division One, but will fancy their chances against a Crawley Down side which plays its football one level higher up.

Following the departure of manager Simon Wormull, Crawley Down have slipped to 15th in Ryman League Division One South having lost their last six games in all competitions and won only once since the end of September.

“It will be interesting,” continued Gall. “I just feel it’s a good test for us to see how far we’ve come and how good we are or can be. I can learn a lot tonight and we should certainly put a side out that can win the game.” Kick-off at The Salts is 7.45pm.

Elsewhere tonight, Little Common will also attempt to bridge a division’s gap when they entertain Ringmer in the same competition. Kick-off at The Recreation Ground is 7.15pm.

Unpredictable Common ended a run of three straight defeats with a 6-2 thrashing of Storrington on Saturday to leave them fifth in Sussex Division Two. Although fourth-bottom of Division One, Ringmer have won six and drawn one of their last seven games in all competitions.
