After scoring the only goal in Brighton’s opening-day win against Nottingham Forest and then at Southend in the League Cup, LuaLua struck the only goal of the game after 35 minutes against Blackburn.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes owing to the plane crash at Shoreham Airshow.

Albion keeper David Stockdale denied Fode Koita and then former Albion loanee Craig Conway when he got through on goal, before Dale Stephens fired wide from 18 yards at the other end.

LuaLua netted with a powerful shot from Sam Baldock’s pass, before Tomer Hemed was denied by Blackburn keeper David Raya early in the second half.

Rovers had a great chance to equalise when Nathan Delfouneso got through one-on-one but Stockdale again came out on top.

Hemed shot off target with an acrobatic effort just before the hour, before the visitors had a great chance to level with a minute to go but Shane Duffy headed over from six yards.
