RYE United have extended their lead at the top of the Sussex County Football League to four points.

Two goals in either half gave Rye, who have played four games more than second-placed Pagham, a 4-0 win at home to third-bottom Shoreham on Saturday.

Wes Tate’s 15th of the season and one from Matt Maclean made it 2-0 at half time before a Sam Adams penalty and Maclean’s 16th of the campaign made sure.

Elsewhere in Division One, Sidley United lost 5-0 at home to Hassocks. Despite starting brightly, Sidley were four-down at half time largely due to their own errors.

Little Common made it a hat-trick of wins and clean sheets in Division Two with a 1-0 success at home to Southwick thanks to Dom Bristow’s third goal in three games.

Westfield ended an 11-match winless run by winning 1-0 at Loxwood, also in Division Two. David Pugh’s fifth goal in four matches did the damage.

Despite dominating, Bexhill United needed late goals from Dominic Clarke – his 17th of the season – and Liam Miles to salvage a 2-2 draw away to Oakwood.

Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
