Hastings United’s run of seven points from a possible nine was ended by an away defeat tonight (Tuesday).

The U’s went down 2-1 against bottom half side Sittingbourne in Ryman Football League Division One South with the damage being done by a pair of strikes late in the first half.

Sittingbourne opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Ryan Golding converted a Luke Girt cross at the second attempt after United goalkeeper Josh Pelling did well to save his first effort.

The Brickies struck again moments later as defender George Crimmen headed home a Girt corner. United improved in the second half and pulled one back through Frankie Sawyer’s left-foot shot in the 64th minute, but an equaliser proved elusive.

United continue to occupy the final play-off place, though, because Merstham were beaten 3-2 away to Hythe Town. Folkestone Invicta, the other team in and around them playing tonight, won 3-0 away to Walton & Hersham.

United: Pelling, Adams, Corrigan, Darby, Judge, Bachellier, Ellis, Ferguson, McCreadie, Pogue, O’Connor. Subs: Oyinsan, Sawyer, Toney, Woodley, Nessling.
