H&B so close to surprise victory

Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club was agonisingly close to a shock win on Saturday.

H&B were edged out 10-8 at home to Charlton Park in London Three South East after conceding a penalty right at the end of added time.

The hosts led 8-0 at half time thanks to a Murray Whittington try after 20 minutes and Paul Sandeman penalty, but Park fought back in the second period as H&B had two players sin-binned.

H&B remain one place and one point above the anticipated three relegation spots, but victory would have put them within touching distance of safety.

A full report will appear in Friday's Hastings and Bexhill Observers.

Elsewhere, Rye Rugby Club received a walkover in Sussex Division One after scheduled visitors Lewes II were unable to raise a side.
