Hastings United drew 2-2 away to Wingate & Finchley this afternoon (Saturday) in a game which controversially ended 10-a-side.

United came from behind to lead before having to settle for a sixth successive Ryman Football League Premier Division draw with all the goals coming during the second half.

In wet and windy conditions, United started well and overall had the edge during the opening 45 minutes. They also had the numerical advantage at half time because David Laird was shown a second yellow card shortly before the break.

United brought on Jaxk Dixon for Tom Vickers during the interval only to fall behind in the 49th minute as Daniel Brown latched onto a loose ball and fired into the net from 20 yards.

Josh Jirbandey headed wide from a corner earned by Dixon’s shot being pushed aside and Danny Ellis equalised 15 minutes from time with his first league goal of the season, a curling effort from the edge of the box.

Substitute Bailo Camara nodded in Dee Okojie’s cross to put the visitors in front on 85 minutes, but Jirbandey was then shown a straight red card which even Wingate’s Twitter feed described as “for nothing”.

Wingate equalised soon afterwards when a corner went straight in. The north London outfit drops a place to second-from-bottom, while United remain fourth-from-bottom with games in hand on everyone bar third-bottom Thurrock.

United: Howard, Cox, Richardson, Carey, Ray, Jirbandey, Ellis, Vickers, Okojie, Attwood, Goldberg. Subs: Crellin, Dixon, Manning, Camara, Whitehead. Attendance: 140.

None of the area’s five Sussex County League clubs were in action today. Rye United were due to be, but their Division One match at home to Ringmer was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
