Hastings United are working on extending Liam O’Brien’s stay at the football club.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has impressed since joining the U’s on a 28-day loan from League Two club Barnet in time for the FA Cup third round tie away to Middlesbrough on January 5.

Speaking after the midweek draw with Cray Wanderers, United player-manager Sean Ray said: “We’re working on a few things. I’ve left it with the chairman to see if anything can be done. I’d love to keep him. It’s a no brainer for me; he’s been outstanding.

“I know everybody’s talking about the FA Cup money, but he’s not cheap and we also need to put Matt (Armstrong-Ford, United’s regular goalkeeper) being fit again into the equation. I still don’t know about Matt; he’s still getting scans and treatment. It’s a bit of a catch 22.”
