Adam Lam scooped a hat-trick of bronze medals at the National Under-13 Badminton Championships last weekend.

The 12-year-old from Hastings reached the semi-finals of the boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and mixed doubles at the University of the West of England in Bristol, losing to the eventual winners in each event.

Adam eventually lost 21-11, 21-12 to England no.1 David Jones (Berkshire) in the singles. In the boys’ doubles, he and Jonathon Tang (Essex) succumbed 21-16, 21-18 against no.1 pair David Jones and Harry Arksey, while in the mixed, Adam and Kirby Ngan (Avon) went down to no.2 pair Arksey and Ciara Lindsay 21-17, 21-18.

The St Bede’s School pupil, who trains at ‘The Academy’ under coach Manfred Tripp in Milton Keynes, is on the World Class Start Potential Programme (WCSP) and will make his England debut in Belgium next month. He will also compete in the National Under-15 Championships in Hatfield this weekend.

Adam is part of Asda Athletes programme and travelled to Wembley Stadium last week to collect his award. Mark Foster, the Olympic swimmer, was on hand to give a talk about his experiences as a sportsman which really inspired Adam to achieve his goals and be the best he can be.
