Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club made it five wins on the bounce with a 36-12 victory at home to Cranbrook on Saturday.

The decisive demolition of a side that narrowly beat them in the reverse fixture moves H&B to within two points of Kent One leaders Dartfordians.

Skipper Jimmy Adams hurled himself over the line for a 5-0 lead before Alex Waring doubled the advantage. Adams got his second try just after half time, and five minutes later the side claimed a bonus point when Tom Waring added a fourth try which Ash Diedericks converted.

Bruce Steadman supplied a converted fifth try to make it 29-0 before Ben Campbell scored the last. Cranbrook responded with a couple of late efforts of their own, but the game was already safe.

“The forwards gave the backs a great platform today,” said backs coach Kit Claughton.

Elsewhere, Rye Rugby Club went down 53-20 away to Sussex One leaders Burgess Hill. Despite the defeat, Rye remain in third spot. H&B and Rye are due to meet in the final of the Sussex Shield on Sunday March 17.
