Adrian Gray was triumphant at a soft darts event in Singapore.

The St Leonards thrower returned to the big stage for stage two of soft darts world championship series The World and made an immediate impact.

After reaching the last eight at stage one in Macau during April, Gray was ready for the challenge of stage two and keen to add the title he won in stage one of the series last season.

The 34-year-old breezed through the first three rounds with a hat-trick of 3-0 wins before seeing off in-form Filipino thrower Adrian Marcelino 3-1 in the last 16.

Another 3-0 success followed in the quarter-finals against experienced American player Alejandro Reyes, setting up a semi-final clash with home favourite Lourence Ilagan.

Gray had lost his last three meetings with the Filipino and was in grave danger of that sequence continuing as he trailed 2-0 this time around before producing a brilliant burst of scoring power to win 3-2 and send the crowd into raptures.

Carpet fitter Gray met new sensation Park Hyun Chul in the final and avenged a narrow 3-2 defeat to the Korean in stage one by winning 3-2 on this occasion, sealing victory with a double 13.

Soft tip darts is broadly similar to the more familiar steel tip version of the game, but legs are played over the 701 and ‘cricket’ formats.

The World series is played over eight stages in various countries and the top eight then compete in the super darts finals. The next stage is in France on Sunday June 14 and can be watched live on Dartslive through YouTube.

Gray finished fourth last year after reaching the last 16 or better at every event he competed in. He would like to thank his sponsors Monster and everyone who has supported him.
