Young boxer Harry Lucas has won his first national title by striking gold at the prestigious Redditch Cup tournament.
Held over consecutive weekends near Birmingham in the West Midlands, the tournament is a showcase event for some of the finest young schoolboy boxers from all across Great Britain.
In the final, Lucas was up against the very strong and experienced Rio Hemmings, of Brentwood ABC in Essex. Lucas was given a specific fight plan by the head coach for his club, Guildford ABC, and he kept to it perfectly to record a landslide victory.
Never in danger and in total control throughout, it was an outstanding display of boxing and officials from Team England remarked that Lucas produced the most impressive performance on the day by any of the young boxers.
This was Lucas’s second title of his debut season having previously become the Southern Counties regional champion and Team England is keeping a close eye on him.
