Athletics ace Lee Emanuel has achieved the entry standard for the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The middle distance runner from St Leonards clocked 3:38.68 in the 1,500m at the prestigious Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday.

As well as beating the entry standard of 3:39.50, Emanuel’s time was enough to finish fourth at the high class event and he was also the highest placed non-African athlete.

The World Indoor Championships will take place in Portland, USA, from March 17-20, but before then the Indoor British Championships are in Sheffield this coming weekend.

The 31-year-old Emanuel, who spends the bulk of his time training in the United States, has turned into something of an indoor specialist over the last couple of years.

Last winter he clocked 3:35.66 at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham - a time bettered only by Peter Elliott in the history of British indoor athletics.

He also won the 3,000m at the Sainsbury’s Indoor British Championships 2015 and went on to clinch a silver medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in the Czech Republic.

Back in 2014 Emanuel won the 1,500m at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield and subsequently made his Great Britain debut at the IAAF World Indoor Championships 2014 in Poland.
