Badminton ace Lydia Powell won a hat-trick of titles at the Sussex Senior Restricted Championships for the first time.

The 17-year-old from Hastings won her box in the women’s singles fairly comfortably and then overcame Cathy Bargh, who recently won a bronze medal at the World Seniors Championships, 21-8, 21-11 in the final.

Sedlescombe-based Bargh got the better of fast improving Rye College student Freya Hodgson 21-15, 21-16 in the semi-finals, but said afterwards “I wouldn’t want to play Freya next year’’!

Powell teamed up with Amber Roberts to clinch the women’s doubles, beating Kim George and Stephanie Pound 21-13, 21-18 in the final. Powell and Dean George comfortably captured the mixed doubles, winning the final 21-6, 21-4 aginst Luke Jones and Pound.
