Saxons will get their South Hockey League Kent/Sussex - Regional 2 season under way with a trip to Old Williamsonians tomorrow (Saturday).

The Horntye Park-based club produced a sublime display of controlled, disciplined hockey to dismantle Crowborough 4-1 in last weekend's friendly.

Saxons opened the scoring through George Eldridge, who carried on his fine form from short corners by powering a low drag flick through the goalkeeper's flailing stick.

Andrew Acott doubled the lead with a reverse stick shot from a tight angle following a driving run and pass by Will Orr.

Even without Alex Coombs (injured) and Tudor Stainsby (unavailable), Saxons were more energetic and more aggressive than Crowborough.

After half time, it was only a matter of time before Saxons' pressure established a three-goal advantage. Paddy Cornish left the Crowborough defence startled with some swift interplay and Acott rounded-off the move from close range for his second.

Crowborough pulled one back from a short corner, but Saxons captain Jamie Busbridge completed the scoring with a low drive at the near post from the edge of the D.

The away side should have scored more late on, but man of the match Acott, Cornish and Chris Meredith were particularly wasteful with close range chances.

Saxons' work-rate provided the platform for victory, notably from Andrew Orr, Jon Meredith and Gavin Cload.
