Saxons inflict double figure drubbing

South Saxons dished out another thrashing on Saturday with a 10-1 victory away to Eastbourne III.

Saxons took a two-goal lead in the opening 10 minutes and from then on the outcome of this South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One derby was never in doubt.

The visitors went on to lead 5-0 at half time, and although Eastbourne pulled one back during a strong start to the second half, Saxons went on to double their tally with some excellent flowing hockey.

Man of the match Dave Draper scored four and set up five, Rob Whitehouse and Paddy Cornish weighed in with two apiece, and there was one each for Gavin Cload and Dan Burnett.

A full report will appear in Friday’s Hastings Observer.

Results elsewhere also went Saxons’ way with both their rivals in the race for second place dropping points. Penguin could only draw away to bottom-of-the-table Crawley II and Lewes III lost 5-1 at Middleton & Bognor.
