Some of the UK’s highest quality athletes battled it out in the fourth Bexhill Triathlon on Sunday.
Last year’s second place finisher Sam Wade went one better this year to take the victory in 1:00:58, with a blistering 5K run split of 15:02.
Eastbourne-based Bodyworks XTC athletes Adrian Elliott (1:02:44) and Patrick Hough (1:04:22) took the second and third podium spots.
Bodyworks XTC athletes had another dominant showing in the women’s race, taking a clean sweep of the top six places. 2010 Ironman UK Champion Yvette Grice led throughout to win for the fourth consecutive year in 1:09:15 and taking
seventh place overall. Emma Richards came second in 1:12:21 with third going to Faye McClelland in 1:14:58.
The team relay competition was fiercely competitive with the win being taken by the St Richard’s Young & Old Team of India Landy (swim), Pete Tadros (bike) and Josh Varney (run).
The Jamie Hanney Trophy for the highest placed Bexhill athlete was awarded to Jamie Faulkner, of Bexhill Runners and Triathletes, who performed strongly throughout to finish 13th overall in 1:11:28, also winning the 40-44 age group prize.
The Jamie Hanney Young Athlete Prizes (for the youngest competitors in the race) were awarded to Luke Howard and Samantha Malins. See Friday’s Bexhill Observer for the full article and more pictures.
