Despite the biting winds and threatening rainclouds, around 120 hardy competitors descended on the Abbey Green to enjoy the annual Good Friday Marbles matches.
Competition was tough, especially in the best dressed team category, with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, Red Indian squaws and Bernie Clifton's ostrich present amongst the teams eyeing the best dressed prize.

There were some first class marbles played on the day, with high-spirited celebrations after the cups and shields were handed out at the prizegiving at the end of the morning.

The Battle Marbles Club Cup for the winning ladies team was taken home by The King's Head Ladies, beating The Battle Ladies into second place.

The Battle Club Turtles came top in the men's competition, pipping The 1066 Men to the coveted trophy.

In the clash of the champions, The King's Head Ladies romped to victory over The Battle Club Turtles to claim the Dave Cusack Cup.

Rose Standley took home the James Woodhams Memorial Cup for the Highest Scoring Lady, with Robert Emeleus crowned the Highest Scoring Man, walking away with the Pelham Wait Memorial Shield.

The hotly contested title for Best Dressed Ladies team went to The Chequers Ladies for the second year running, with The Senlac Ladies as the runners up.

Meanwhile The Battle Club Turtles came first in the mens category, with The Senlac Men joining the ladies team as runners up.

The battle of the sexes once again ended in victory for The Battle Men, who held on to the Bert Gobles Challenge Cup.

There were a high number of entries in the children's Easter bonnet competition, with a merry-go-round to keep the little ones entertained before one thousand shiny new marbles were rolled out for the annual children's 'scramble'.
