News from Westfield
THIS afternoon (Friday), from 3.15pm, Wesfield Primary School will open the doors on its Christmas Fayre. You are welcome to drop in and join the fun.

CURRY: Tonight is the first Friday of the montn - and curry night at The Old Courthouse. Andy and Lynne's new chef will be preparing the dishes for Tandoori chicken, vegetable curry and lamb Rogan Josh - enough to make one's mouth water.
This will make a change from all those Christmas dinners which seem to be on many people's agendas, depending on how many organisations you belong to.
The Friendship Club enjoyed their Christmas lunch on Monday at the Rainbow Trout, Broad Oak, and a local group of friends were among the diners for First Year students at Hastings College Channel Heights restaurant on their first day of producing and serving their Christmas menu.

PLOUGH: The new landlords, Mick and Debs, at the Plough Inn on the Moor are holding a celebration evening tomorrow (Saturday), from 7pm.
You are invited to pop in when there will be special free bitters, larger and real ale promotions, complimentary buffet along with free entertainment from special gusts including Billy Whizz who is well known in Westfield.
During the week lunched is served from noon to 2pm with a special board, set menu, bar snacks and light bites including bagettes and sandwiches.
Dinner is from 6.30pm to 9pm while Sunday food is available noon to 4pm and includes a roast dinner with fresh vegetables for £7.95.
For a limited time buy a main meal with a second one at half price. Senior citizen's Monday-to-Friday lunchtime special two-course meal is £5.95.

CHURCH: This second Sunday is Advent and services at St John the Baptist, Westfield, are Holy Communion (1662) at 8am, Nine Thirty Plus (all age) with Holy Communion at 9.30am and Matins at 10.30am.
CAROLS: Next Friday (December 14) Carols around the Christmas tree take place at Corbieres, Church Lane, at 7pm. Last year's crowd was the biggest ever but there was enough delicious hot, homemade soup to go around. This is a regular outdoor event on Westfield Community Association's calendar which goes ahead whatever the weather.

DECORATIONS: Westfield's lights are on and cheering up the darkness. An early switch-on was encouraged by the news of a Belgian TV company's visit to 1066 Country this week to feature Westfield's lights which are enjoyed by people coming from far and wide.

POPPY APPEAL: An excellent figure of £1,747.13 was the total sum raised in Westfield for the recent annual collection for the Royal British legion's Poppy Appeal. The boxes taken door-to-door by volunteers, the static boxes in businesses, the wreaths laid at the War Memorial and donations all contributed to the best figure ever.

FAYRE: Last Saturday's Christmas Fayre raised a magnificent £537 for the Friends of Westfield Church which will be put towards gilding the church clock. Thanks to everyone who turned out to help and support this function on an afternoon which had such atrocious weather.
