News from Westfield
LIBRARY: Since September there is a brand new vehicle with better access for the mobile library. This will visit Westfield again today (Friday), stopping at Geary Place, Moor Lane from 2.25pm to 3.15pm and then Churchfield from 3.30pm till 3.55pm. Besides a good selection of books to read, there are DVDs and videos available.

CHURCH: The Remembrance Sunday service was very well supported. Members of the 1st Westfield Scout Group and the Westfield Guides and Brownies paraded along the main road to the church and took part in the service by reading the lessons, leading prayers and lighting candles to commemorate those who gave their lives.
Anthony Mason sounded 'The Last Post' at the end of the silence. The service was followed by the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.
This Sunday, services at St John the Baptist, Westfield are Holy Communion (1662) at 8am, Nine Thirty Plus, all-age, at 9.30am, and Parish Eucharist, a modern service, at 10.30am.
Rubbish: A plea for anyone tending graves in Westfield churchyard. It is now a problem when rubbish, other than greenery for composting, is left for someone else to remove.
There is no longer a 'bin' collection from the site and along with hirers of the Parish and Community Halls, you are requested to take it away.
Once the habit of recycling is common practice for glass, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans there is not so much to put in for landfill.

JUMBLE: A chance to have a clear out before Christmas really sets in. The 1st Westfield Scout Group will be holding a Jumble Sale in Westfield Community Hall on Saturday, November 24, with the doors opening at 2pm. If you have anything, other than computers or furniture, please take it to the hall at midday on the day.

OUTING: A few seats remain on the Community Association coach trip to Romford for Christmas shopping on Wednesday, November 28, at a cost of £9 - telephone Joan on 01424 752463 if you are interested in going.

COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER: This was duly out last weekend for volunteers to deliver in Westfield parish. Despite a number of difficulties before printing could begin, these were dealt with in time.

RESULT: Last Saturday's Coffee Morning with Father Christmas was well supported and thanks to everyone for helping or coming. The proceeds, supporting the Parish Hall maintenance and our local branch of East Sussex Disability Association raised £380, will be split equally.

PLANS: There was no change in the committee for the Friends of Westfield Church at their annual general meeting last Saturday.
The afternoon meeting proved to be popular and the exhibition of photographs showing some of Westfield in days gone by was interesting as always.
The Christmas Fayre preparations are now in hand as it takes place shortly on Saturday, December 1, in the Parish Hall from 2pm to 4pm.
Ann 754355 would still welcome help on the day with setting up and clearing away etc., please call.

MAIL: Did you know that today is the last recommended day for international surface mail for Christmas to Eastern Europe, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Malta and Iceland? Christmas is approaching fast!
Telegraph Poles: The habit of putting notices and posters on telegraph poles is littering the neighbourhood and particularly annoying when they go out-of-date. It is an illegal practice anyway.
There are many boards in Westfield where notices are allowed to draw people's attention to events etc.
The school gates have new boards but please contact the school secretary for permission to have your notice included.
