The founders of Keane are set to return home to Battle for a one-off acoustic gig it was officially confirmed today (Wednesday, July 8) as the final contract was signed.
Award-winning songwriter Tim Rice-Oxley and singer Tom Chaplin will perform together for the first time in two years at Battle Abbey on Saturday, August 8.
And, in exciting news for local music fans, Battle residents are being offered a special deal with 100 discounted tickets going on sale 24 hours before their general release.
They will go on sale at Battle Memorial Hall on Wednesday, July 15, from 7pm and hopefuls will have to present evidence of their residency in the TN33 postal area in order to qualify.
This will include proof of identity and a utility bill.
A further 260 tickets priced at £35 will go on sale online at www.battlefestival.co.uk the following day at 8am.
A maximum of two tickets per booking will be allowed.
Keane’s international fans have also been allocated 100 £25 tickets
The show will raise funds for Battle Festival of which Rice-Oxley is a patron.
The performance is already hotly anticipated by fans from all around the world who are planning to gather in the area for a weekend of celebration.
However, Rice-Oxley is keen that the concert is a more intimate affair than the usual big venue gig.
“Obviously the key thing is to raise money for Battle Festival but Tom and I really enjoy performing in a smaller venue where there’s a closer connection between us and the audience,” he said.
“The Abbey is such an atmospheric place, this is going to be a unique event.
“It should really help raise the profile of the festival which only started last year.”
Jo Stewart, property manager of 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield said: “Both the Abbey and Keane are an intrinsic part of the town’s identity, albeit nearly 950 years apart.
“It’s great to see initiatives like the Battle Festival which shine a spotlight on the area and we’re very happy to support this special concert.”
