East Sussex Fuchsia and Pelargonium Society

The Burren being a national rock garden of some 20 square miles and is situated a few miles to the south of Galway Bay.

The talk was very interesting and was accompanied throughout by a selection of superb colour slides ranging from very close up subjects to distant views of bays, valleys, mountains and the single river that runs through the area. They were and had been taken and collected by our speaker over many years and many visits to the area and included slides of plants, flowers, insects, birds, mammals and even some fossils.

It was explained that owing to the fragile nature of this are, there were very few roads and virtually no areas for car parking in order to attempt to restrict over exploitation. Access was available by limited public transport.

At the end of Mr Coulcher's talk there followed a question and answer session. Questions were many and varied and was indeed a very interesting evening enjoyed by all present.

Our chairman, Peter thanked Mr Coulcher his display and talk and asked members present to show their appreciation which they did with a resounding round of applause.

The monthly mini competition 'A vase of autumn foliage' was won by Mrs Fluff Muggridge with a selection of acer, copper beech and field maple foliage.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, November 13 which is the annual meeting and social evening. Members re reminded that our current chairman, treasurer and show manager will or have resigned from these posts and nominations for these offices are sought. Please think about it.
