Get busy making stuff in St Leonards new arts venue
St. LeonArts is a quirky gallery and makery based in Silchester Road, St Leonards on Sea, specialising in locally sourced art, jewellery, ceramics, prints and textiles, which opened late last year.
St. LeonArts is run by Roma Clark and Emma Hundleby who also exhibit their own work in the gallery.
After chatting one evening they discovered that they had the same goal of opening something in the community where local artists could exhibit their work and others could learn painting, drawing, experimental textiles and many aspects of jewellery-making from the ‘basics’ to more advanced techniques including, chain maille, precious metal clay and vintage upcycling.
For instance they run courses in learning how to make a stylish tote bag - this is a beginners class - or creating a funky textile lampshade.
The makery side of the business allows them to teach in their respective field and offer a wide selection of inspiring workshops.
Adults of all ages can explore their creativity and gain new skills and the St. LeonArts childrens’ after-school and holiday classes are proving popular with ages ranging from 5-16 years. If you want to check out their Facebook page or website www.stleonarts.co.uk you can see a selection of imaginative and colourful works created by the children.
Emma and Roma have backgrounds in Psychotherapy and NLP and use these skills to help to boost confidence. They are aiming to help other people become creative, and move past the blocks that prevent them doing so, and say that this is “not just a job but a love of creating” and they are “passionate” about sharing that knowledge with others.
