Glorious music from Bexhill Choral Society this Spring

Two popular yet contrasting choral treats await the audience at Bexhill Choral Society's concert on Saturday May 7, at 7.30pm at St Augustine's Church, off Cooden Drive, in Bexhill.

BCS member Sue Wright commented: “The concert begins with Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. Thank goodness this work was rediscovered in the early 1950s after 72 years of being ‘lost’. This very operatic yet ecclesiastical work is a forerunner of Puccini’s ever popular operas and is sheer joy to sing and listen to.

“The second half of the concert is Poulenc’s Gloria. This work strikes a glorious balance between the exuberance and solemnity of Church music, with many jazzy overtones.”

BCS is “delighted” to welcome back three popular soloists well-known to Bexhill audiences: Sophie Pullen, Gary Marriott and Barnaby Beer.

The performance, as always, is conducted by Kenneth Roberts, BCS’s Director of Music, with the Sussex Concert Orchestra.

Tickets, £12, which include free programme, are available from Second Spin, Sackville Road, Bexhill, Choir Members, on the door, or by calling 01424 213352.

BCS is a friendly, enthusiastic non-audition choral society which currently has over 50 members and warmly welcomes new singers, particularly tenors. The group performs three main concerts during the year, featuring a wide range of choral music, and holds social events.
